About Us

Balancing Nature and Technology

Our microgreens are grown year-round in a controlled climate greenhouse. Our founders, as "East Branch Ginger LLC", drew on decades of professional horticulture and farming experience to hone their techniques. Drawing on their immense genius, we use appropriate technology to efficiently grow an excellent product, with nature's processes at the center.

Our name refers to the earth's axis, which drives the seasonality of our climate here in North Carolina. It refers to our product, as "axis"means the main part of a stem or inflorescence. In the world of dance, "axis" refers to how we maintain our own balance. As we partner our own skills with nature, balance allows us, as a team, to create something beautiful and nourishing.

Who are we?

Axis Produce is owned by long-time farmer and short-time single mama Stephanie Jones. Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Stephanie has worked on organic farms from the Eastern Shore of Maryland to the South Carolina Lowcountry. Stephanie was educated in the Midwest, with a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  She is inspired by her education, her farming experience, and her time spent researching community based natural resource management in East Africa to support a local food economy grounded in regenerative practices, community eating, and the arts (dance in particular!).

Axis Produce is supported by a vibrant staff of workers and volunteers with experience as chefs, grocers, programmers, carpenters, tea-gatherers, and princesses (well, just one). Our mission as a business is to nurture our staff's community roles and our needs to be caregivers to our children, partners, elders, and friends. We keep odd hours and center our relationships in our work. Children always always welcome.
